About three weeks ago we went out to take pictures of Emma. She turned 12 this last Wednesday. On Thursday she woke up and was fine, but when she went outside, she had lost the use of her hind-end.
When Holly called me, I immediately had that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Karen and I met her at the vet clinic.
Emma has always been such a vibrant dog. She lived for tennis balls and treats, more treats and maybe one more tennis ball.
Without an MRI, the vet really couldn’t come up with a definitive diagnosis, but there was clearly something neurological going on. She couldn’t turn her back feet back over. We decided that since she was still as strong as an ox on the front end, and her mind is still as goofy as it ever was, that we would try a doggie wheelchair for her. As we sat in the vet clinic, I did a quick search on the Internet and found “Walking’ Wheels” and we placed the order yesterday.
She’s a little confused by everything that is happening, but by this morning she had figured out how to take care of business with a sling around her belly. Holly said she was even able to stand while she ate and drank.
So with the power of the paw, this little lady should be wheeling around the city in no time and Holly and Joe will have many more years with her.
And it is time for the Saturday Pet Blog Hop.
