Flocko makes a friend

Flocko at Cape Kiwanda
Sunday morning the fog was really thick in Salem, but all of the weather reports pointed to clear sunny skies at the coast. We didn’t even see a break in the clouds until we were about 8 miles out and it was absolutely beautiful. I love the south side of the cape in the morning.

We were immediately greeted by two dogs. I have to admit that this is the first time I have ever encountered a greyhound off leash at the beach. He was so beautiful and seemed content to stay in the area near the parking lot. I assured Flocko that he could eliminate any ideas in his head, it wasn’t going to happen.

It was still high tide and wouldn’t you know it, right off the bat he got his tootsies wet in the surf and he was not happy about that. He never would stand on the ocean side of us again.

I love the reflections so much. My calendar shot was right there, so close and yet, so far away.

Yes, this is where I was going, but Flocko really wanted nothing to do with the wet sand after the wet tootsies.

While we were walking along the beach, we met one of the e-vets and chatted for awhile. As we were walking back to the car, a young woman came up to us and said that her father was visiting from Ireland and wanted to know if he could meet Flocko.
He actually raised and trained greyhounds in Ireland. He loved Flocko, checked his ear tattoos and gave him all kinds of love.

Of course, I don’t think Flocko has ever met a stranger, he is such a good boy. He soaked up the lovin’ just like the sunshine.

To the beach

The beach is that way
Oh woe is me, this is my last Friday of vacation. Karen took the day off, the dogs drew bully stix and Crystal got the short one. Her turn for a road trip and she lead the way to the beach.

Crystal
There was a weather advisory for high waves, exciting for me but Crystal wasn’t so sure. This is one of my favorite beaches and I don’t remember the tide coming in as far as it did today.

Run for dry ground
Once we got onto the sand there wasn’t a safe place to stand. We were on constant watch for sneaker waves. The sun was in and out of the clouds the entire time we were there.

I did manage to get Crystal to stand still long enough during a brief patch of sun and I thanked the seagull that flew by and grabbed her attention.
Oh how I love the coast, it was a beautiful trip out there.

Once more to the beach

Flo
It is really cold here and I still have a few more images to knock off before I can put the calendar to bed. We looked east, 18°. Nope, I’m a weanie at that temp. We looked out the window, fogged in and 29°. Sheesh, still a little to cold. Going west we could actually warm up to 39°.
No fog at the coast, but the lighting was so flat. This is absolutely not the image I was hoping for.

Still looking through the images from the week-end. Moose is such a good boy. He is such a sweetheart to have around.
Moose goes to the beach

Every year I do a greyhound calender, mostly for us. I try to come up with some clever theme, I think about it all year long and then as Thanksgiving approaches, I scramble because I have not done anything.
Today was a holiday for me and Karen took the day off so that we could play. When I looked at the weather around us, the beach seemed to be the perfect choice. We finished our morning coffee, grabbed my gear and Moose drew the lucky straw to go to the beach.
This was Moose’s first time at the beach. I was a little worried about all of the loose dogs, but Moose was amazing.

Even the waves rolling in behind him didn’t seem to phase Moose. He was such a good boy.

He and Karen walked along the surf as I did what I do whenever we go out.

Despite my reminder about watching out for waves below the high water mark on the beach, I always enjoy the first scramble to dry land. On the other hand, don’t ask me how wet my feet got.
The longer we were there, the more the sun came out, it was absolutely beautiful.

And when it was time to go, I found Moose and Karen patiently waiting for me as I brought up the rear for just one more (dozen) pictures or so.

Lilly and Abby

Lilly and Abby
We got up and were ready to go at 3 am this morning so that we could be there in time for low tide. It was quite foggy, but as we were getting ready to go home, the sun was just beginning to peek through the fog.
We stopped at another beach and when I looked out, it wasn’t the waves rolling in that caught my eye, but rather these two pups racing across the sand. I just assumed they came from the same family, but after a quick romp, the two parted company.

Abby
First one to walk toward me was Abby. She was beautiful, a little drooly, but so, so sweet.

Lilly
And then, I met Lilly. She was such a little darling and her daddy adored her.
Beach dog

A dog and his ball
As we returned from our stroll on the beach the other day, this happy dog playing with his ball in the surf immediately caught my eye.

He would run in onto the beach with his ball and wait patiently for his human to load the ball into the chuck-it and toss it back out into the surf.

If I have learned one thing, it’s that a ball plus water…

Equals a very happy dog.
Guess who went to the beach?

Tonight was the most incredible sunset I have ever seen. The color was beyond amazing.
